Magnus will be speaking at ArchiCon in Melbourne this October, on the 8th and 9th. The organisers call it 'the only unboring business conference for architecture firms' ... We can expect sessions built around fee structures, systems, and how firms are actually run. Not just the final buildings - all the real, behind-the-scenes stuff.

His talk draws on sixteen years of running Ström Architects, what he's learned, what's gone wrong, and how to keep going. Expect stories from redundancies made too late, the projects that fell through in Dubai and the UAE, and how a fee structure built on hard timesheet data changed the way the practice charges for its work. There's a section on why he built his personal brand separately from the firm's, and one on why he stopped trying to do everything and started specialising instead.

Magnus posted about the talk on LinkedIn a couple of months ago and asked people what they'd actually want to hear, given how much has shifted since he first submitted his synopsis. AI, market pressure, and a fair bit of geopolitical noise have moved the ground since then. It's not going to be one to miss!

ArchiCon runs 8–9 October in Melbourne.
