Archipelago House
Archipelago House is a family holiday retreat designed as a legacy project for our client—something timeless to be cherished and passed down through generations. The brief called for a home that could adapt to various family dynamics, whether accommodating multiple generations simultaneously or providing a private escape for smaller groups.
To achieve this, we divided the programme into three distinct buildings rather than one large structure. The main house serves as the social hub, featuring shared living spaces, a kitchen, and a single bedroom, making it functional for solo visits. The second pavilion, oriented to the east, houses the bedrooms and a small living area, offering privacy and tranquillity. The third building contains two studies that double as overflow sleeping quarters when needed.
These pavilions are designed to blend harmoniously with the untouched Finnish landscape, appearing to float lightly within their natural surroundings. The site itself remains pristine, allowing the buildings to feel integrated and at peace with their environment.
A separate sauna building, located on a small island accessed via a causeway, completes the retreat.
This project is conceived as a sanctuary from the demands of modern life, a place to connect with nature, loved ones, and oneself. Whether it’s reading by the fire, solving puzzles, enjoying the sauna, swimming, or fishing, Archipelago House is a place to slow down and recharge.
