We were one of four young local architectural practices invited to submit an Expression of Interest for the redesign of a large community theatre.
The local authority and cultural body have aspirations to improve, develop and streamline their current operating model - both in terms of management of the facility and the built asset itself. Having been invited to interview, we were fortunate enough to be the practice selected to submit a feasibility study for these works.
Having put together a team to address operational, financial and structural concerns, we developed a design which sees the partial demolition and extension of the existing theatre. The current building is dated, under-performing and in dire need of upgrades to aesthetics, services and quality of spaces.
Our proposal seeks to build upon an existing building fabric to reprioritise some of the existing theatre space, in order to provide more appropriate ancillary spaces and create a better public realm.
The feasibility study has been delivered and positively received, and the stake holders are currently in the decision making process.
