Hortus House, Surrey, UK
This is a large luxury house in the heart of Surrey, situated in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The client wanted a contemporary and sustainable house in the rural and sensitive setting. We addressed this by lowering the impact of the building by utilising the natural slope of the site and cutting one storey in to the ground giving the appearance of a single storey dwelling form the site entrance. A sleeve containing bedrooms floats above the lower level and defines a large glazed living are underneath.
The house is designed to be a zero CO2 home and have minimal impact on the environment.
